Message from the Chancellor
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru ji Ki Fateh
For the first time in Sikh history a unique institution of higher learning in the form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University has been established under Punjab State Act 20/2008, at Fatehgarh Sahib, near Chandigarh (India).
To commemorate the historic event of 400th anniversary, in the year 2004 CE, of the compilation and first installation of Sri Adi (Guru) Granth Sahib, Hon’ble Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, (presently Chief Minister of Punjab) articulating the aspiration of the Sikhs for the last hundred years or so, formally announced the setting up of the SGPC-funded University at a mammoth congregation on September 1, 2004 at Sri Amritsar.
As a follow-up action, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the apex elected religious body of the Sikhs, got constituted a Trust known as Sri Guru Granth Sahib Fourth Centenary Memorial Trust under the ambit of which the University has been established.
Let us all join hands to make this historic venture a great success in terms of academic standard and the community expectations as well as societal obligations.
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru ji Ki Fateh
